Eye Line, the RIBA Journal’s acclaimed annual award for architectural image-making skills, is now open for 2018 entries.
This year, the journal is also giving the winning entry a chance to rub shoulders with the all-time architecture greats by potentially inducting the piece into RIBA’s world-famous Drawings and Archives Collections (DAC), based in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
The DAC features all significant architects from the Renaissance to the present day. Major groups include the work of Inigo Jones, Sir Christopher Wren, and several generations of the Wyatt, Pugin, Scott, and Waterhouse families. More recent collections include the surviving drawings of Edwin Lutyens, Ernö Goldfinger, and Denys Lasdun.
“This is the sixth year of Eye Line, the award which celebrates purely and simply the art of architectural image-making in all its forms. We have expanded its reach and its appeal to all sections of the architecture community, from student to seasoned practitioner,” comments Hugh Pearman, editor of RIBA Journal “Every year I look forward to seeing the best talent and skill from around the world – and every time I’m surprised and delighted at the incredible variety of approaches people take when communicating their ideas. Go on – amaze us again!”
The winners work will feature in the August issue of RIBAJ and be on display in the Eye Line Gallery at RIBA headquarters at 66 Portland Place, London. Finalists shall also be invited to the winners’ party which will take place in the Florence Hall at the RIBA in September 2018.
For the third year running RIBAJ Eye Line is produced in partnership with architectural illustration experts AVR London www.avrlondon.co.uk.
“The majority of AVR London staff have trained as Architects, our careers however have diverted to focus on depicting rather than designing architecture. Eye Line obviously appeals to our architectural side, whilst offering a glimpse into the inventive methods other practitioners and artists use to express their ideas from mind into image.” – Joseph Robson, Founding Director, AVR London
Entries must have been produced within the three years up to the closing date of 23.59 on Tuesday 12 June, 2018 and must not previously have been entered for Eye Line competitions.
